New Inspiration = New Art!
Greetings! We have been hard at work here at ADC over the past year. We are excited to be able to offer you this little newsletter and hope it will inspire you in your life as an adoptive parent, adoptee, or friend of adoption. We continue to be moved by families we work with and people we meet through adoption and are delighted to share that with you.
See the results of this inspiration as art and text in 6 new cards and posters. Also, we have found a groovy, high-quality new printer with a fancy pants machine that has made it possible to greatly reduce our prices!
Inspiring Events
(From Kate) A favorite home movie at our home is the footage of our arrival at Logan airport with Olena, finally home from Ukraine, and the meeting of her new big brother Haven and grandparents. It was on the 257th viewing of this happy film when I caught a tiny piece of dialogue from Haven, then 4 years old.
Kate to Haven: I love your sign, honey ,"Happy Sister Day!" It's beautiful!
Haven: Let's celebrate this day every year!
Kate : How should we celebrate?
Haven: Have a Party!
And that's what our family does. We call it "Brother Sister Day; the day Haven became a brother, and the day Olena became a sister. Here's a picture of the Fourth Annual brother Sister Day!
(Katie and Kate) We are looking forward to Saturday, April 5 - the annual conference of ACONE in central Massachusetts. Some of you might remember our little table full of home printed cards from April 2005. Your heartfelt responses to our cards that day confirmed for us that we are doing a good thing. Please stop by our table to say hello and see our new cards and posters! We always come away from the day exhausted and full of new ideas.
More Inspiration
One of the new cards in our collection was created in memory of a beautiful little girl who died suddenly from myocarditis several years ago. I (Kate ) thought of Annabel Si Wan Fahy as I created the image of the Bleeding Heart, hoping it would bring comfort to those who have lost someone special, or simply be a touch of spring beauty on a cold winter day.
Sharing our Inspiration
We created and produced a poster for the G2 Global Adoption Awareness Campaign which will be used to help generate interest and increase awareness of adoption and adoption issues for teens.
Our Alma Mater, Simmons College School of Social Work, did a story on us in their fall 2007 alumni magazine. They wrote that ADC "has a unique focus, aimed at helping adoptive families feel recognized, appreciated, and loved." We hope so!!
We were pleased to co-sponsor the release of a new adoption book by acclaimed author, Sherrie Eldridge. In celebration of National Adoption Day (November 17, 2007) the publisher, EMK Press, invited those touched by adoption to read Forever Fingerprints at a bookstore, library or school. It was great to participate in this national event with a publisher we highly respect.
The American Adoption Congress asked to use our artwork on their new website and we are delighted to be part of their new look.
Inspire Us!
We would love to hear from you. Is there an adoption related greeting or sentiment we are missing? Would you like us to create something special just for you? Has our work touched you or someone you love? We would greatly enjoy hearing about it.
Between now and April 5, if you make a purchase from our website or at the ACONE conference, mention that you have seen this newsletter and receive a free card (yes, you can request which card!)
Happy Adoption Day!
